Open to allIt's unclear why the NRF rejected Shein's membership application, but according to one of the people familiar, someone with sway is strongly against the company's admittance. The NRF's board has a leadership team and an executive committee. An NRF membership application form that can be found online states: "Companies principally engaged in retailing are eligible for membership in the Federation." Two of the board members said they weren't aware of any instances where the NRF denied a retailer membership. "I don't think they are in the business of turning anyone down," one of the board members told CNBC.

But the impression that Simpson’s all-consuming trial had on shaping the modern media environment cannot be overstated. Simpson’s trial gave way to a media landscape dominated by salacious reality television and talking head-driven cable news. It’s difficult to imagine Trump being elected to the White House without the three-legged stool that Simpson’s trial played a crucial role in building. Reality TV had started earlier, but after Simpson there was a massive profusion of ‘Reality TV,’” Socolow said in an email. “That’s how ‘The Apprentice’ gave Donald Trump a comeback in American culture, and he rode his reality TV stardom to the White House.”

H2MOF, which was co-founded in 2021, is working to develop a solution for hydrogen storage by deploying the latest advancements in the field of molecularly engineered materials. It says a breakthrough in what it regards as the greatest challenge facing the hydrogen economy is just a matter of time. Those attacks have ramped up ahead of the Super Bowl, which Swift is expected to try to attend to cheer on her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican former presidential candidate who has endorsed Trump, wondered aloud on X whether an "artificially culturally propped-up couple" would endorse Biden after the Super Bowl. watch nowORLANDO, Fla. — Little is known about how much revenue Shein draws or just how profitable it is. But the fast-fashion company's sales are "a lot more" than the $30 billion it reportedly brings in annually, one of the retailer's key partners said Monday. "There's talks that they do 30 billion, do they do 40 billion? If Shein's sales are "a lot more" than $30 billion annually, its revenue would still be far smaller than that of retail giants such as Walmart and Amazon , which do hundreds of billions in sales annually. A sales total above $30 billion would mean Shein dwarfs American retailers such as Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle , which most recently reported annual sales of $3.7 billion and $5 billion, respectively.

The cruise, which is not actually affiliated with Taylor Swift herself, will take place aboard the Royal Caribbean Allure of the Seas ship next fall. Malerman happened to be wearing a Taylor Swift shirt one of the days and the rest, they say, is history. Taylor Swift will not be present for this fan-led experience.

An Airbnb landlord said a tenant stopped paying rent and battled to make her leave. It took 570 days of legal back-and-forth, roughly $60,000 in unpaid rent, and a police escort before Elizabeth Hirschhorn finally left the property on Friday, Sebastian Rucci, an attorney for Jovanovic, told Insider. Within an hour of watching Hirschhorn drive away, per Rucci's motion to dismiss the eviction suit against Hirschhorn, Jovanovic changed the locks. The Times reported Jovanovic offered to pay for Hirschhorn to stay in a hotel while the repairs were completed, but she declined. Hirschhorn had refused to relocate unless Jovanovic paid her $100,000, the Times reported, citing a settlement offer the outlet reviewed.

The largest desalination plant in the US is in San Diego. AdvertisementAdvertisementIn the early 1990s, San Diego was dying on the vine, starved of water in a series of yearslong droughts. At the last minute, a miracle saved San Diego — rain and snow in the desert replenished aquifers, saving the city from intense cutbacks. With these easier options on the table, it's even more staggering that cities such as San Diego have pushed desalination efforts through.

The bargain shopping app of Shein, which also hosts bricks-and-mortar pop-ups, is raising concerns in the U.S. Photo: Allen J. Schaben/Los Angeles Times/Getty ImagesA law that allows low-price packages to enter the U.S. duty-free and with little customs scrutiny has enabled the breakneck growth of two e-commerce companies with roots in China, Shein and Temu. Packages valued under $800 can enter the U.S. under simplified procedures known as the de minimis exemption. Lawmakers and some U.S. businesses say it is a loophole that the Chinese companies are using at a huge scale, allowing shipments of products that are unsafe or made with forced labor, while avoiding taxes.

Minneapolis CNN —Ballpark attendance boomed this summer, Barbenheimer revived the box office and a Renaissance of live performances brought concerts into new Eras. However, it also could mean that holiday spending just might look a little different and skewed more toward experiences than it has done in past years. Respondents to KPMG’s 2023 holiday survey said they plan to spend 5% more this season, said Matt Kramer, KPMG’s consumer and retail national sector leader. “What stands out the most is this ‘leaning in’ to holiday travel and wanting to have those experiences with friends and family,” he said. A more comprehensive look at consumer spending will come at the tail end of the month when the Personal Consumption Expenditures data is released.

Due to be held in Melbourne from February 11 to February 13, 2024, just days before Swift’s “Eras” tour arrives in Australia, the conference is backed by seven universities across Australia and New Zealand. Swift's "Eras" tour has become a cultural phenomenon. Swift’s impact has already proven to be literally Earth-shaking. Fans attending her Seattle “Eras” tour concert at Lumen Field in July caused seismic activity equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake, according to seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach. Her “Eras” tour could gross a record-breaking $2.2 billion in North American ticket sales alone, according to August survey data from research firm QuestionPro provided to CNN exclusively.

Nearly two dozen whales have washed up dead along the East Coast in recent months. Scientists blame it on climate change sending whales into the path of cargo ships. The surge in online shopping means ships are bigger and more plentiful than ever before. Two whales that washed up dead along the Atlantic Coast this month were determined to have been struck by vessels, USA Today reported. A year ago, scientists began calling for cargo ships to start rerouting in order to protect endangered blue whales that live off the coast of Sri Lanka.
One of the really interesting questions here – this will be fascinating – the core of linear TV is sports rights. When you look at the size and scope of the linear TV business, it's huge. Patrick T. Fallon | Afp | Getty ImagesByron Allen, Entertainment Studios founder and CEO: I think linear TV will exist for a very, very long time. Simmons: I believe Apple, out of nowhere, will start making their own awesome televisions that have Apple TV embedded in them. We are witnessing early stages of this dynamic with deals like "NFL Sunday Ticket" on YouTube and the MLS deal with Apple TV.
Traditional TV networks got what they wanted out of it, too. Google's YouTube TV bundle includes broadcast stations like CBS, Fox and NBC. Sports, and particularly the NFL, have long been considered the glue holding the traditional TV bundle together. YouTube TV had more than 5.3 million subscribers as of the third quarter, putting it above its competitors like Disney's Hulu Live TV+, Fubo TV and Dish's Sling, according to data from MoffettNathanson. "This is a win for YouTube TV as it serves a larger goal for them getting more subscribers.
LOS ANGELES — Hundreds of thousands of undergraduate students at the University of California face a chaotic finish to their fall term as a strike by academic workers grinds through its fourth week. It’s definitely a weird situation.”University of California academic workers walk the picket line at the University of California, Los Angeles, on Nov. 28. Some campuses, including UCLA, have pushed back deadlines for submitting grades because faculty members rely so heavily on teaching assistants to assess student performance. Alicia Victoria Lozano / NBC NewsHernandez, a freshman, said teaching assistants help him with assignments and show him how to better tackle complicated subjects. Teaching assistants are integral to UCLA's "cluster" program that gives first-year students an opportunity to immerse themselves in smaller learning groups led by faculty and teaching assistants, he said.
The Microsoft executive walked into the small, windowless room in Studio C at about 8 o'clock that evening. Despite Nadella's public stance against those he has called "talented jerks," many inside the company say Microsoft retains a nearly unlimited tolerance for bad behavior by its top rainmakers and developers. "The Microsoft of 2021 is very different from the Microsoft of 2000 to me and to everyone at Microsoft," Nadella said. But some women say the investigations drag on for months or even years, with no clear timeline for resolution. What's more, some employees say Microsoft's efforts to promote racial equity often smack of tokenism.
Whether it happens, he said, is highly dependent on Republicans' success winning state legislatures during the 2022 midterm elections. But not everyone in the conservative constitutional convention movement believes such a gathering is so imminent. Constitutional convention boosters include many of Trump's current and former allies, including conservative legal scholar John Eastman, Florida Gov. In 2012, the Republican National Committee went so far as to pass a resolution formally opposing the convention movement. A convention of states would be the first of its kind since the original Constitutional convention in Philadelphia in 1787.
